Medical records

Has anyone encountered the need to have a copy of their medical records
in Spain?

I should imagine that it would be very useful.

If you have perhaps you would let me know and what was the reaction at the request, of your GP in the UK?

Hello Haslar,

I have no personal experience of this but have spoken to people who have. My impression is that although GPs may be a little resistent, as you have a legal right to access to your records, they are obliged to comply with your request.

Once you have these, you need to get them translated into Spanish by a good medical translator. Don't trust just any translator as it is a specialist subject and too important to get wrong. I personally never translate medical records.

If I do decide that it would be beneficial to take my records with me, then I will make sure they are suitably translated by a person qualified to do so

Hi, Guys.

Our GP in the UK gave us the line that the NHS owned all medical records, so we couldn't bring them with us.

However, they were quite happy to run off a synopsis from the practice's computer.

Ditto re: a qualified translator!

Most of you have confirmed what I had in mind, however the main thrust of my question was "had anyone encountered the need for their records"

Would it normally be the case where a GP in Spain would ask for them?
