An appeal for community spirit at Christmas

I have had elderly neighbours both in their late 70's round for tea this afternoon. They are surviving on 720 euros a month now losing 30% of their pension this year due to the fall of sterling and facing an enormous electric bill, that being the sole source of warmth. From that they pay all their bills etc. They are struggling. I am going to treat them to a few essentials over this next week or two - a bit of meat, a few other treats. I can just about afford this. I think I owe this to them and I will not stand by and watch people struggle like this. He worked from 18 until 66.
They are not scroungers. A random act of kindness like this will mean a lot of difference to many. I invite anyone reading this to do the same if they can afford to do so in these terrible times in which we live.

I wish people's kindness would extend to the poor animals. Som assh..e dumped two tiny kittens in a garden near to us at night in very cold temperatures. Thankfully a dog was barking at them so we were alerted to them. We took them up to the nearest vet at Benimar and he kindly took them in.

Today we were walking our dogs around the back of our village (very quiet road - no houses) and someone had dumped a gorgeous little 8 or 9 week old puppy who I am sitting with on my lap until we can take him to an animal charity tomorrow. (We have already taken in two stray cats and two stray dogs).

Fortunately on our development people all seem to still be going out, visiting the UK and not struggling which is good. I think the people who have savings aswell as pension are not too bad.

i think that is kindness itself. You are a very kind person to think of your friends and I, like you hope that we all do our bit for the not so fortunate at this time of year. I wish you a healthy and happy Christmas.

I agree re. our best 'furry' friends as well. My neighbours have a little rescue which brings them a great deal of delight. I see that a charity I have supported in the past, APAH, is in the paper today saying they are full up and can take no more. A shocking endorsement and don't believe the myth that the British are a nation of animal lovers - they are as bad as the rest of humankind.
