The mighty Euro is ten years old

I for one always knew it would become the world's greatest currency and would eventually outstrip the dollar despite all the nonsense written about it in the UK press. Now ten years on, it is stronger than ever and likely to become the world's reserve currency being used by more people than the US dollar. As for the pound - what a fringe currency that has become, now sitting sadly on the sidelines along with its users, dreaming of things that were and that might have been.

i saw this comming but like somekind of inertia ridden idiot didn`t do what i should have, ie locked in, result 50k lost.Well see what we can do to make damage controll, life is still to be lived "for richer ,for poorer" in God i trust, and a good few g n ts, God bless all.

the euro came in 2001 thats 8 years ago

I think you will find that is when notes and coins first came into circulation. The Euro itself came into existence ten years ago - 1st January, 1999 and then all those joining it fixed their currencies against it, including Spain's dear old peseta.

A currency that covers countries as diverse as Germany and Greece will come unstuck at some point.

Look at the Spanish economy the Italian economy the Greek economy the Portuguese economy and also the Irish economy and then tell us that it is a really strong world currency able to displace the dollar - I dont think so.

By this time next year it will be back to a realistic 1.30 to the pound or better.

As with all things, time will tell. I personally believe after the coming central bank meetings when the BofE reduces rates again but the ECB don't, we shall see a puny pound buying 95 cents if we're lucky. I so hope you are right though but I believe the euro is fast becoming the world's preferred currency.
