Despite the exchange rate and fears around increased crime and falling house prices - it's still better to live out your years in the sun and relative low cost of living than stay in UK with a half-wit megla-maniac as a Prime Minister, the Polar Bear hugging, waste paper recyling maniacs spying on your every move, train fares going through the ceiling, businesses going bust day by day and Big Brother on the TV.

Can I come back to you on this one ? I am increasingly open minded about the merits of both places right now ! Is it me, or is it getting increasingly expensive here ? Please, please Spanish supermarkets have a few more cut price or 2 for 1 offers. Come on Mercadona - follow what the supermarkets in the UK are doing, go on, you can do it.

BTW - TV ? Ah yes, I remember it well.

I am french but I was living until september 2008(7 years) in england and before that 7 years in germany .

what I like in england :
-no publicity near the roads
-the people are friendly
-clean country
-very nice country side (I have been visiting derbyshire , walles etc...)
-easy to find a job and get a good salary
-the raspberries and strawberries
-good cappucino and coffee latte
-good place for kite surfing in hunstanton
-free motorway !
-cctv camera everywhere

what I don't like in england :
-apparently england is the country of europe where you pay 75% taxe on the petrole ( a world record ....)
-pay a council tax to rent a flat !
-no real summer
-sometimes a full month rain
-the weather
-I have to take the ferry to go in france :-p
-the £
-gordon brown. :-p

what I like in spain :
-nice sea side
-cheap petrol
-the euro
-tasty fruit
-the hot weather
-cheap appartement

what I don't like :
-country full of rubbish (exemple after a market ) .
-not very nice people
-not very easy to find a job
-not very safe for my english car ......

For me I would said UK and spain are egual . it's hard to choice between this two country . For me I miss england but I don't want to go back because I had enough during the rain fall to do some shopping or to go in the pub . For the shops the price are the same IF you are not looking only for english product :-p

However you cannot think the UK can produce a good coffee!!!

Up to a couple of years ago coffee came out of a tin marked Maxwell House or worst still a bottle called 'Camp'

CCTV? are you mad? We are the most spied upon nation on earth with possible exception of North Korea!

No Motorway adverts - but lots of nice policemen with speed cameras waiting behind signs to catch you breaking the unrealistic 70 mph limit

The weather...........enough said

Your comparisons between France. UK, Germany and Spain would be interesting.

well !with germany the UK make one of the best coffee

germany :what I like :
-it's one clean country aswell (5 differente bins in each house )
-For the NHS germany is THE BEST country .
-good salary
-in 2000 the german guvernement was investing a lots in the new technologie
-very serious people
-the coffee


what I don't like :
-I was single
-the people are sometimes too much serious
-sometimes one good salary means : half paid to hand and the other half with tax



france : what I like :
-the warm welcome in the shop
-the internet connecton (very high speed ) now they have the 100 mb connection speed in some city
-the food :-p
-the country side
-for car you don't pay any tax stamps

what I don't like :
-the coffee
-second hand car are in very bad condition and are expensive
-flat are expensive and not in good condition
-work collegue are offen arrogante
-you have to watch out where you walk every second because of the pets poo

personnaly with cctv camera I fell safe for me , my futur kids or my wife
arf I forget for england
