  • New Property Electricity supply

I am moving into a new 3 bedroom duplex in Villamartin, hopefully at the beginning of May. The electicity supply will be 5.5kw. Is this sufficient for the occasional 3 or 4 oil filled radiators, kettle, hairdryer, TV and computer etc. ?
I am informed that 'the installations to the property only allow for a maximum supply of 7.7kw.----It is not possible to upgrade the supply to 7.7kw prior to the takeover.'
A further letter says I can arrange for the upgrade with an indepenent electrician, and the builder will give me the name of such an electrician.
I've asked for an upgrade but get the above response.
Is 5.5kw sufficient and why cannot the buider give me 7.7kw prior to takeover?
Answers would be very much appreciated as I want an adequate supply when I move in.
Incidentally, We,ve eaten at Rita's Welt in Villamartin and Crusoes in La Zenia whilst over there. I thought both provided excellent food and service. Anywhere else locally we should try for good everyday food and/or company.
    Thanks.

    Hi Freeatlast.

I have a two bed apartment with 5.5kw supply and have no problems at all. the system has never tripped, even when running two air-con units, fridge, alarm, stereo, hairdryer, dishwasher, water heater, and iron (boy, that was a hell of a day!)

You shouldn't have any problems unless you're going to be charging a forklift at the same time, but check the power uptake of the radiators.

    Chris.

      Supply And Grub

I would have thought the only people who can upgrade your supply are Iberdrola they will fit a breaker and seal it. If however you have a period on builders electricity see how you go with 5.5Kw this seems ample for the load you mentioned,in that case anyone can fit a breaker for you but when Iberdrola finally supply you the higher your demand the higher the tariff, the higher your bills. Im at Pinada Golf two local bars Wolfies have fish and chips every wednesday.Next door Windows rack of ribs every night. Not Spanish but very nice.

          supply

One more thing I must mention. It seems the Spanish way of wiring property is different from the UK.I have a 10 amp circuit breaker in my place which suplies both lighting and power points. This was the only option I had to power 2 AC units which when run together exceed the limit of the breaker,I would recommend switching off each breaker in your place one at a time to find what each one is controlling since if like me you have 5.5KW loading it is no good if the circuit that powers your AC is only rated at 10 amp.If you are on builders supply check it while you can run all your AC together see if it trips a breaker.
