Has anyone got a list of default transponders to use in the Torrevieja area please ? and which ones of that list usually get the strongest signal ?
Thanks.
i assume you mean on a sky box. as most other receiver do not have the same issue
the main DT is 11778
alternates are
12129 v
11954h
12207
or any other frequency on eurobird 1 or astra 2a / 2bs south beam
as long as you are getting a picture it makes no difference what your DT settings are...the DTs do not make channels last longer...they just help the sky box boot up and get the minimum amount of information they need to function ie data and time and about 6 hours of EPG data.
the DT is only used for gettting the minimum amount of EPG data for the sky box to work...thats why you change it..nothing more..and it is normal for the DT to go back to 11788 once you have picture...
it is a TOTAL MYTH that changing the DT INCREASES the viewing time of a channel or INCREASES the strength of a signal.
so even if you set your DT to 12129, if you watch bbc news, your sky box will use frequency 11954...or sky news on 12207...and therefore overriding the DT...
UK TV comes from 5 satellites...each satellite has so many transponders...each transponder has so many frequency..each frequency has so many channels...for example transponder 41 is 10714H that carries channel4, or transponder 46 is 10847 whcih carries bbc1 Channel islands, and transponder 4 carries 11778..
so no matter what you change the DT to, the sky box will still look at what ever frequency it need to for the channel you want to watch.

Many thanks for that - combined with your list, I now have :
11.778
12.207
12.441, V, 27.5, 2/3 - (Best signal so far)
12.051
12.129 H
10.773 H
12.480
10.905
11.954 H
10.714 H - (Good for C4)
10.847 - (Good for BBC1)
but i dont know why you are wanting them...perhaps you could say why...both the freesat and sky receivers uses a DT, to look for the basic information it needs to boot up. the freesat on is much easier to locate, but the sky one (1177 is on a tricky north beam which can be tricky to get at certain tiems of the day...so you chnge the DT to another to help the box get the information it needs. once the sky box has got all the information it needs the DT will (99.9999% of the time) revert back to 11778 - as it should.
all transponders / frequencies carry this minimum amount of EPG data that the sky box needs...but the main data (ie the full 7 day EPG) is only on 11778.
when you type in 104 on a sky receiver it will automatically look at C4 on 10714...no matter what you set the DT to
or 988 on a sky receiver will get you BBC Ci....on 10847
so if i set the DT to 12129, but then go to 501 for sky news, the box will look at 12207 and not 12129 (or 11778 or any other frequency!)
and if you scan for channels on 12441, which you say it the strongest DT, then a sky box will return NO CHANNELS...(there are only the 6 bbc sports interactive steams on that frequency which are classed as a data channel and therefore do not show up on a scan on a sky box!)

Ok most of the above is correct, but by far the best settings to use in your DT are 12129, v, 27.5, 2/3. for example If you are having problems with old sky receivers like Amstrads then this setting will help your box keep working, unlike when you use the setting 12207, which seems to make these receivers boot but have problems whilst viewing.
Been testing these for some time now, and i have found that having a strong DT in your receiver does prolong your viewing, although technically it is correct that if your viewing sky news your Transponder will look at 12207 etc.

to help the sky box boot up when it cannot receive the default transponder frequency 11778, you can use any frequency that you can receive, as all frequencies carry the 6 (ish) hours of EPG data that a box needs to work.
yes, those on the astra2a and b's south beam, and those on eurobird are very strong, but you can also boot up using bbc1 frequencies, as long as you can receive the channels at the time (depending on area and dish size).
you only need to do this when your box is unable to locate the frequencies 11778 which is on the tricky north beams, and poor reecption on small dishes, in the afternoons or in heavy weather.

i must question the first part of this statement.
i have found that changing a default transponder DOES NOT prolong viewing....no matter what DT you set you cannot keep channels longer...your statement reads that this would mean that you can get bbc2 all day using a 80cm dish as you have set your dt to 12129...which it will not work as bbc2 is not on that frequency.
do a channel scan of 12129 and you will see what channels are on that frequency. b4movies, s4c and a few shopping channels. thats all that are on that frequency..no other channels.
and also, as 12129 is a vertical frequency, what happens when you want to watch a horizontal channel...as the 12129v dt setting would not help.
where can you get software updates from ? just the default 11778 or any that you have mentioned.
sky box software updates should be done automatically by your box if and when they become available.
they tend to be done in batches of make and model of boxes...so not all boxes are updated at the same time.
some boxes, if they have missed several software updates, may not accept new software. panasonics are known for this issue.
as far as i am aware the sky send the software updates on 11778, but they can, when automatic upgrade is required, to push this out on a number of frequencies.
you can manually update the software (if newer software is available), it may take several attempts, but generally i would advise people not to do it.
for basic sky boxes the latest version of software is 3.7.x, although 3.5.x and 3.6.x should still work ok.(x denotes other numbers), for some sky+ i think it is 5.04.
