a mate and i have just brought an apartment in altos de la bahia. when we use the shower there only seems to be sufficient hot water for one person. when we asked the seller if this was normal we are being told yes it is !!!!!. seems strange to me that they build an apartment which could potentially sleep 6 people only to put a boiler in which will produce sufficient hot water for one shower at a time. Any one else experienced problems of this nature ?.

    Hi Tookia,
Agreed, the boiler does not allow for several showers one after the other. We do however manage more than one. The boiler can be upgraded if this proves to be a big problem or cut down on the time spent under the shower.

      Hi tookea/Lithgy
Are there any other little niggles that we should be aware of?
We are due to sign for our apartment on phase 9 No 166 on 5 May.
Are we neighbours by any chance?

thanks for the reply Lithgy. When i was over in march there were 2 of us both adults 1 male (short hair) 1 female (shoulder length hair). The virgin shower was i have to say pretty good as i had it !!! however when my partner went to get in the shower it was bloody freezing and she wasnt a happy bunny. We had to wait a fair time for the water to be comfortable enough for her to use. Next time we had a shower it was a case of getting wet turning the shower off washing your hair turning it on to rinse off and not to be too long at it. This worked for both of us but there was very little hot water left which i find totally unacceptable especially if you intend to rent it out.

Imagine if you intend to rent out, do you add a line on the rental terms 1 hot shower allowed every 3-4 hours. Wonder how many people would be keen to rent from you.

What is involved in upgrading, did you fit a larger boiler ?.

Guess the only other way to resolve this is to shower with a friend !!!!!

KC i am phase 9 over looking the old bull ring

The other challenge is the main road through being used as a rat run. I have been approached by a resident who has asked me to take it up with the council. Apparently, they are refusing to add more speed bumps.

The only other query would be re the proposed change of use for the Bull Ring as mentioned on 1 April post. Mmmmmmm!! Kangaroo Fighting!!

            Hi again,
Your boiler seems poorer than the one I have, which I have to say is also not ideal. We have not rented out so do not have concerns in that area and have survived well during visits with friends. If you are upgrading I would also upgrade the power supply to your apartment as we find it cuts out when several electrical appliances are on at the same time. I intend to do both when I am in the position to spend more time in Spain. We are in phase 5 and have enjoyed our apartment for over two years.

              Hi

Most new builds are only installed with a relatively small hot water tank. If you want to upgrade to double or treble the size, most electrical shops have bigger ones that are inexpensive and easy to install yourself, or the shop will provide someone to do it for you.

Usually it's a question of space - we'd have to move our fridge freezer if we wanted to upgrade.

Perhaps you've noticed because it's been so cold. Let's hope for warmer weather and cooller showers.

does this mean a bath is out of the question?

My water heater provides enough for 4 showers, one after the other. I think it's 100 litres (it's about a metre tall). Upgrading may be the way forward for you.

                  Chris.

I heard the old bull ring will be turned into a shopping centre of some sort.

I'm buying on Manazana 9 near the top of the hill......guess that means low water pressure and little hot water for me then

We're up the hill a bit from the old bullring site on manzana 3. The standard size boiler is 50 litres and it's okay, but we upgraded with the builder to a 75 litre tank (the biggest that will fit into the available space) and we've had no problems at all. The upgrade cost with the builder wasn't too bad and I'd recommend getting it done when they are fitting out the kitchen rather than waiting until it's finished and having to go through the bother of changing it. The pressure is astonishing and the quality of the water is also fine. (we always drink the tap water although we sometimes stick some in a bottle in the fridge to chill it down a bit.)

                        RickT,
Is it Ok then to drink the tap water or did you go through a 'stomach adjustment' phase when you first arrived?

BTW, any idea when the bullring will be re-developed? Is it a shopping centre? Seems impossible to get any info on this from the local authorities.

                        Cheers

Everyone seems to have their own opinion on how drinkable the water is. I can only say that in Altos de la Bahia, we have drank the tap water from day one without any ill effect whatsoever, and without any "stomach adjustment" needed. In the form of ice cubes it goes particularly well in whisky, vodka, gin....... Not only does my Scottish blood grate at the prospect of paying for water, even though it's only a few cents a bottle, there's also the hassle of carrying it back from the supermarket.
No additional info on the bullring, other than the "rumours" posted on this site re commercial centre, school etc. When I was out last week it was still just a cleared site so I think it could be some time before we see any developments
