  • La Mata for Teenagers

I am visiting La Mata for two weeks in July and wonder what there is for older teens regarding things to do and nightlife.
Also what bars and restaurants would you recommend for families in that area.
we are staying in Torresol Apartments on Calle Helena.

    La Mata - July

Most if not all of the beachside strip will be open by then, plenty to do for teens thru twenties music and so on.

Try a lunch Wednesday (market day) at the Cuban style bar on the boardwalk. At the square with the church, there are fenced courts for sports, the boardwalk extends South from there to the beachside strip. The Cuban place is next to the Dubliner Irish bar - also good for a lunch and craic. Buena Vista is the name, goulash soup to die for, beef in red wine sauce equally and all on the menu del dia for not too much euros.

Thanks Mel. Are there any discos you could let a 16 and 17 year old girl go to in the area?

        Discos in La Mata?

I think you may have a problem with that one, La Mata is definitely NOT Benidorm or Majorca, the "scene" there is nowhere near as disco-'d as Ibiza or other places. The beachside strip has a couple of possibilities, you'd need to check those out yourself as to being suitable!

La Mata is a chill out kind of place even in the season, although it can be very busy with Spanish holidaymakers, lots of the Spanish and Brits own their holiday properties in the area and Torrevieja area generally. OTOH, keeping a 16 year old on the reins a bit might well be a lot easier there, we had our grand-daughter (16) out last year to Torre - she loved it - no pressure, no hassle, actually she went back to being a wee girl for the time she was theer and stopped trying to be 16 going on 30 if you now what I mean.

There's one or two places in Torrevieja (1euro10c on the bus, about 10 euro back by taxi after buses finish}, Torre is the "city" to La Mata, but entertainments even there tends to be low key compared with the big resorts.

        HTH a bit

Sounds ideal really. You hit the nail on the head when you said 16 going on 30. I'm trying to convince her that there will be loads for her to do out there. I would not be happy letting her into torrevieja late at night. Thanks a million for your help.
