Have we done the right thing?

18 months ago we purchased off plan an apartment in Altos de la Bahia. The apartment is now completed and we are due out to sign the contract. I have been watching the torrevieja message boards here and on other sites and can't help wondering if I have done the right thing.
I have to be vigilant when i leave the airport in my hire car, I have to barricade myself into my apartment and i have to give up my handbag for a non-descript carrier bag. Suddenly the dream looks more like a nightmare.
Wake me up some one please and tell me its not as bad as it seems from reading these message boards.

of course you've done the right thing you can get mugged at liverpool airport if your not vigalant ( have I spelt that right) and on the bright side think of the weather and the price of king prawns

Only you can decide if you have done the right thing or not. However I would say try it first and as already been said all these bad things you hear about can and do happen in the UK as well. Take simple precautions as you would do at home, for instance, I would not work in my back garden at home and leave the front door open it's the same in Spain. I have enjoyed my apartment in Altos de la Bahia for two years without mishap but I do take simple precations to secure house and family. Luck - maybe but if we worried about what might happen we would never do anything. Enjoy your Spanish home.

We've had our house in Altos de la Bahia for 20 months now and had the good fortune to be burgled three times in the first six months, BUT the baddies seem to have now moved on. The pluses still outweigh even those minuses, and my wife would probably divorce me rather than let me sell the place. We come out between six and eight times a year and always look forward to it. I'm just back and can't wait for the next trip.
So take sensible precautions and enjoy yourselves.

I agree with the previous posting. When we moved into our apartment in Los Altos there were a number of break-ins some of them very loud and spectacular. The stange thing was that the very next day a man appeared selling alarm systems!!

I am an old cynic but most of my neighbours agree there was a connection as the burglars were the noisiest bunch in Spain and stole nothing!

So I would just say take simple precautions and all will be well.

Thanks to you all for putting things into perspective.
I was feeling like a 1st time mum about to give birth and wishing I'd never had a minutes pleasure.
Thanks to soothing words I know eveything will be fine and i will look back in years to come and wonder what all the fuss was about.
Really do appreciate the time you have taken to calm my fears and I am now really excited once again and look forward to basking on the solarium soon.

You could get mugged in Chester as well, or near to it.
