Is there such a thing as a shoe hypermarket - I was told there was something like that in elche. I am NOT looking for trainers, but for posher casual shoes - am I on the right track?

quick responses please as I am coming out at the weekend.

    cheers,

Most of the factories are in Elche, there are hundreds of outlets there but they wont sell just one pair! usually minimum is a box of 20

      Hi Lizzy

There is a large shoe factory in Elche which advertises as the largest in Europe. It is open to the public and you can buy a single pair (or many pairs) If you go up stairs where the cheaper shoes are like Dimo you can look down to the factory and watch the shoes being made. Downstairs are more expensive. As the factory is in the middle you have to go up stairs to get back down to the ground floor, where they will offer you a drink from the bar.
If you head for Carrefour, past the new shopping centre (Well worth a look if you have not been there before) and drive past Carrefour on your left, (Carrefour signs are everywhere) you will see a turning on the right about a third of a mile along which goes up a hill and factory units on the right. The shoe factory is near the top of the hill on the right.

      Happy shoe hunting !

Just remembered that there is a small yellow and black sign at the bottom of the road which I believe says "Artisan"

          Shoe stores

This might not help - depending where you are planning to visit but there three or four shoe stores behind the park in Guadamar (just before you go into the town) A couple of these are outlets for factories in Elche. A shoe is a shoe to me but my wife manages to go there everytime we visit and come away with a couple of boxes. She's tried Elche as well but prefers these shops.
          Happy shoe shopping.

One of the blanket tours - the Green Tour takes in a shoe factory in Elche on one of its trips.

              guadamar shops - matt

matt, which direction are you going into guadamar from - North or south?
I would be going in from south so coming off N332 at signpost to guadamar - where next?

by the way, a shoe is a shoe for me too - it's my hubby who wants to get some fancy footwear!!

Guadamar shops - Matt's shoddy directions

I'm not brilliant at this but I'll do my best. From the South I find the easiest way in is to turn right off the roundabout just as you reach Guadamar - the road down to the beach. Follow that road down virtually to the sea and go left - again, drive about as far as you can go and you'll end up at the other end of Gaudamar where you park alongside the park. The shops are left, the beach is right - you can't go too far because it becomes park. If you need to ask for directions ask for the Swimming Pool - that's really close to where you want to be.

Sorry about the state of this link - but on this map you need to get on Ingeniero Mira and walk towards the town. In 2 mins you'll see the yellow of the shop signs.

Hope that helps - someone could probably do these directions more justice.

Wasn't impressed at all by the factory in Elche - very old fashioned - fine for those over 60's. Not worth the trip. Much better choice in and around Torrevieja
