  • Can I get kidney dialysis while on holiday in Torrevieja?

Does anyone know if it is possible for a dialysis patient to recieve dialysis whilst holidaying in Torrevieja.
i would love my sister to visit me in Spain but unfortunately she has kidney failure and needs to dialys 3 times a week this makes holidays impossible without a hospital where dialysis can take place under a reciprocal agreement.

    Hi
Yes you can get dialisis while on holiday, we have a freind that regulary has it when he comes over, They do at at San Jamie the big new hospital not sure how its spelt, you need all your deatails sending over first including blood tests and other tests, but then its quite easy, hope this helps

        dialysis

        Hello,

Thanks also for this, but how do we go about sending the results etc? Would there be anyway we can talk to your friend?

We are worried that once our colleague gets to Spain and the results are not there / incorrect etc, that we will get in to an unhealthy situation. Also how does he book a time slot for treatment, is it chargable and how much?

        Regards,

        Paul

          dialysis in San Jaime

          To all concerned

It is possible to get dialysis in San Jaime but it is necessary to have all bloods etc tested and faxed by your international administrator in your local UK hospital. (my sister receives dialysis 3 times a week and has had 3 or 4 holidays in Torrevieja in the last couple of years.

You must be tested for hepatitis A,B and C as far as I remember, as well as HIV and MRSA. (if you turn up positive to any of the above and your blooods do not show as 'normal' they will not accept you.

They only want straight forward treatment situations. That said - if everything is alright and faxed through (and accepted) my sister has said that the treatment is first class.

I would recommend, though, that you confirm well in advance that everything is definitely booked before you arrive as faxes tend to get mislaid and you end up panicking when they refuse to take you unless everything is perfect! Have someone call to the hospital to make sure all is ok before arriving into the country if possible to save worries later.

          Best of luck
