Copied and pasted from another forum, the person concerned has called Telefonica and this would never happen, they would always add any charges to your bill.
2 weeks ago my neighbours phone line went off and 2 hours later (without her calling TF) a man arrived to fix her line. He said there was an alarm on the main box which had alerted TF to the fault. He then replaced the box in her property and charged her 50 euros (cash) . As she doesn't pay for a telephone from TF, she doesn't pay the maintenance fee so assumed the 50 euros charge was genuine (although she was surprised she had to pay cash to the engineer). He then left and said her phone line would be working within half an hour. Surely if the enginner replaces the box (in her property) the fine line should work immediately??? Anyway low and behold , half an hour later her line was working. Last week another neighbour had the exact same thing happen. The engineer called at 8 at night to repair her line ( and she hadn't phoned TF either). She also paid 50 euros cash to the engineer. Yesterday afternoon my line went dead but I didn't phone TF just to see if the engineer arrived - and yes he knocked on my door at 8,15 PM. He knows your name and is dressed in TF uniform and has TF documentation (including a receipt book)He said the alarm in the main box had alerted TF to our line fault and did we want him to fix the line now or in the morning (the exact same words he had said to our neighbours!!!) We said we would not pay any money and he said if the fault was inside the house we would have to pay but if the fault was outside no pay. We said we paid TF for maintenance so we did not have to pay at all and he said he would speak to his supervisor in the morning and he would switch us on. How could he switch us on if the fault was inside UNLESS HE HAD SWITCHED US OFF!!!! Anyway off he went without coming into our property and low and behold we had our phone line back on by 9pm. This sounds as if this man is switching people off and charging them to switch them back on again. Surely if TF do charge you they would add the charge to the telephone bill? This man either has worked for TF or still does and this is a sideline. If he gets 1 or 2 people a week to give him 50 euros he will soon be a rich TF engineer! So beware if your line goes dead and the engineer arrives and you haven't called TF, call his bluff and do not give him any money.
He has all the official paperwork, uniform, knows the NIE numbers and who is your internet provider!
