Buses from airport

In view of the increasing cost of transfers to and from airports I wish to try the bus from Alicante airport to Torrevieja for my next trip. I understand it is necessary to get a bus from the airport to the city centre and then on to Torrevieja. I should be grateful for any tips from those who have tried this.

We did this journey last month - but I wouldn't recommend it with heavy luggage

1 Catch the shuttle bus from Alicante Airport to Alicante bus station. (Make sure you don't get on the Elche shuttle at the next door stop) This is the tricky part because the shuttle bus drops you a few streets from the bus station.(la estacion de autobuses )Ask the driver for the Bus station stop. (the shuttle bus goes all round the town then does in fact go past the bus station on its way back to the airport. ) €2-60 pp approx.

2 At the bus station find the ticket office for "Costa Azul" company which is the one that runs to Torre. The buses leave on the hour. The ticket clerk may write a number 1 or 2 on your ticket - this is because at busy times they run two buses on the route and one of them misses out the early stops. The driver checks you onto the bus so you can't get on the wrong bus. €3-64 pp.

Thank you for your helpful reply. Could you tell me where in Torrevieja the bus stops please, presumably the main bus station only?

As far as I know it only stops at the bus station, where we picked up our local bus

The bus is the C6 into Alicante it stops behind the bus station so you need to cross the road to get your ticket , the cafe is good for a drink whilst you wait

If you get the Cartagena bus from Alicante it makes everal stops in Torry and on through Orihuela Costa (Punta Prima, Playa Flamenca etc). Have done it myself - takes a while but it's no real hassle - and very cheap!!
