The Mayor ignoring serious safety issues in Rocio del Mar

Why is Snr Mateo the Mayor ignoring the fact that the Community of Rocio del Mar & Senorio de Punta Prima have only 10% of street lights working our of over 180.

He and his team are fully aware of this as I on behalf of the residents have written 3 times to him personally, acknowledged copies by his reception team available if required.

The lives of children as well as others are at risk with the dark nights upon us.

If any child is injured or killed then the blame is directly on him for ignoring the situation.

Street Lighting

Whilst I can understand your concern Gerard, I am interested in your reasoning. Why would you think that the provision of street lighting would affect the safety of children? I could well understand it if you were concerned about the personal safety of people given the levels of crime that could occur. However research has shown that when street lights are not provided, drivers are more careful as are pedestrians. Has the levels of injuries gone up as the proportion of working lights gone down? Nights are dark in Spain whatever season.

There are many issues relating to poor street lighting, I chose the one that concerns most residents here, children, though it also affects the elderly whose sight is perhaps not so good in the dark, slipping off the kerb or tripping for instance.

In relation to crime, muggings in the area are also an issue in recent times.

Regarding the careful drivers, someone forgot to tell the younger drivers that tear down our roads being wide and fast about driving carefully in areas without lighting.

No-one has yet been injured to my knowledge though there have been several close calls.

We live in a popular area where the Government has spent a small fortune recently on the beach that now attracts many and the lighting does not reflect this.

With the now earlier dark nights and lots of people strolling the area in singly or in pairs all sorts of issues might arise that can affect their safety.

It is time the Mayor took an interest in this large TAX paying Community.

The purpose of this post is to make the issue public that way there is no excuse when and if things go wrong then, no-one can say they did not know. If more people stood up and were counted life may just get easier.
