Now that Ryanair have started their usual summer con charging ridiculous additional fees for being a kilo overweight on your suitcase or a centimetre too wide on your hand luggage, isn’t it about time that the so-called cheap airlines started weighing the passengers?
I returned from the UK recently, OK not on Ryanair I chose Squeasy Jet, same meat different gravy! And had to sit next to a grossly overweight (Read ‘FAT’) woman. She came puffing onto the flight at the last minute sweating profusely and disturbed everyone trying to stuff her cabin bags (two!) into the overhead lockers. She then sat down next to me, I say next to me but, if it were not for the armrest, I’m sure she would have sat on me!
I don’t wish to be rude about fat people but, if I had a pound for every fat person I’ve heard say: ‘I have a gland problem’ I’d be very rich indeed. You don’t have a gland problem YOU EAT TOO MUCH!!!! This woman never stopped eating from the moment she sat down for the whole two and a half hour flight. She scoffed sandwiches, (four rounds) cakes (A tray of four) and crisps (three packets!) together with numerous sweets and chocolates, and the smell…………….. Talk about ‘Eau de Chipshop’ a cross between flit, hot fat and old sweat.
When we eventually landed at San Javier I saw her heading for the restaurant, just for a quick snack, I expect.
So, if the excess weight of passengers’ luggage has to be paid for why not the excess weight of passengers? Although, as we all know, the weight of passengers combined with their luggage makes not the slightest difference to the operation of the aircraft and this is merely another way for so-called cheap airlines, that are little more than bus companies, to jack-up their fares. This scam together with the others, paying for check-in on line, paying for first-boarding, paying to book a seat, paying for extra leg-room together with airport taxes make the bucket airlines no cheaper than the traditional airlines.
