  • Spanish Banks

    Hi

As I know this forum is the font of knowledge for all things, does anyone know if any of the Spanish banks offer a Sterling Account?

I know that in the UK you can have a Euro account, Dollar account, etc, but don't know if you can do the same here. I quite often get cheques from the UK, and it is a bit of a faff to have to post them back to the UK Bank all the time. I think you can pay sterling cheques directly into your Spanish Euro account (someone please correct me if I am wrong), but of course then you get caned on the exchange rate.

If anyone knows anything, I would be most grateful.

    Many thanks

    Debbie

I think you would be better off with a UK bank rather than a Spanish one. Have you thought of opening a UK account with the Halifax (they now do a current account which pays higher interest than the Spanish deposit accounts) and having your cheques paid into that? It's then a simple matter to transfer the money into your Spanish Halifax account (and they don't charge commision at either end). They will also give you a Euro account in the UK or a Sterling account in Spain.

          Spanish Banks

Hi, I have opened both a Sterling account and Euro account with Cam Bank. The Sterling account pays 4.25% gross. the Euro account next to nothing.

Both the Euro account and the Sterling account are accessable via the internet ( which is in English)and Sterling can be transferred from the Sterling account into the Euro account without charges and the transfer will attract the current commercial transfer rate.

Transfering Euro to Sterling doe's attract a small fee. There are no set up charges and the yearly max fee would be 17 Euros and minimum fee could be zero if you have a balance over the year above a figure agreed with the bank.

You would be given the equivalant of a switch card for withdrawals from ATM's.

All in all it suits me very well. I also find using a UK Nationwide account allows me to draw out Euros at most ATM's in Europe for no cost and gives me a commercial rate of exchange.

          Hope it helps

          Roy

Not sure if this is of help but I bank with CaixaGalicia in Avenida de Habaneras in Torrevieja, but when I want to transfer money I have a paying in book with which to send money to their London branch which acts with Lloyds. I get no transfer fees and a good rate of exchange and I don't have to wait forever (as with Solbank) for the money to be cleared in my account.
