  • Trevor McDonald Show re Crime in Spain

For anyone that is interested there is a programme on ITV tonight (8pm UK time) presented by Trevor McDonald on crime in Spain. It might be worth a look.

I for one will be watching.

    Oh Dear Not Good......

Just watched it! Oh Dear Torrevieja got a right bashing. Fastest expanding City in Spain and the most dangerous..... There will be a lot of people put off by this I am sure. Is it still as bad, I have not been out for a while? House prices might be a bit softer after this little lot!

      Re: Oh Dear Not Good......

Just watched Trevor Ms Donalds program it looks the wild west in Torrevieja. All pretty depressing stuff.

I shall have to look into setting up a private security firm in the region with security guards being ex British Gurkas, that will stop the Mothers in in their tracks !!!

Absolutely correct dave, we certainly do have crime here in the uk, but it's mainly centred around cities and larger towns.

We live in a quiet sleepy little market town, where a stolen bike gets headlines.
So while I agree with the fact that kids with asbos, street muggings , car jackings etc are happening here in the UK as well, we don't have to have grills and locks on our doors, and to my knowledge, no-one has been gassed in a house break-in!!

having said that...i love Torre and the surrounding villages , which is why we've chosen to move there.

We will take as much care as possible in our new home, but we don't want to end up living like prisoners.

So hopefully, everyone will take heed and sign on at the padron, and maybe there'll be more resources available to help fight the crime!!!.

Here's hoping we're all happy and safe in our new homes!!

The people who made this programme will have spent months hunting down the people who experienced the worst crime.
Sit down and think if they made a programme about an area say 50 miles of where you live now, how bad would it be ???

We move out in 6 weeks and are counting down every minute

It makes good figures for the programme, its all about money god viewing figures brings money in.

                Trevor McDonald's programme

We threw in the towel in February after 5 years ownership of property in Campoamor. We did not feel safe anymore and all our neighbours had been burgled. After our third burglary, one attempted scam (letting the tyres down, foiling another scam when we saw two ladies being targeted, hearing everyone we met with a tale to tell we sold up - our dream had become a nightmare. We wouldn't go back for a holiday, even though we have many friends there because we just don't feel safe. Oh and yes - gas is used frequently to imobilise the residents (usually at night whilst they sleep).

Incidentially, a lot of people don't register on the Padron because they think the Spanish Tax man will be after any income they get for renting their holiday home which we all know a lot of peple do.

I think this is getting a bit our of perspective. We bought 2 years ago and spend about 3 or 4 months a year there. We are always carfull and lock doors and windows ect, we have never had any problems or felt unsafe nore have any or our freinds our neighbours. I never carry a hanbag on a night, nor do i in England, in England there are burglaries and muggins all the time but people are to busy to hear or notice them unless you read the paper. The only burglaries i know of are where people have gone out on a night and left there windows and blinds open, or where women are walking with there hanbag full of money and passport. Please everyone dont let the programme worry you go out and enjoy i am sure you will.

The gas is a scary thing for me..but i'd really like to know how they get in to the house in the first place to gas people .

Surely if you're asleep, then you'd have your windows and doors locked & shuttered...or am I missing something here?
