  • HEALTHCARE AFTER E106 IN ALICANTE PROVINCE

We have been told by the Benefits Agency here that after the E106 runs out (two years cover) that if you live in Alicante province you can register with the INSS (Spanish Health) for free treatment the same as a spanish resident. They are pretty sure it is without paying contributions as we will not be working and will be under retirement age.

Does anyone know whether this is the case or not?

    Health care after e106

You have been correctly advised. To register with your E106 you have to attend a couple of offices in Orihuela with certain documentation. (if you need advice on this e-mail me off board at d_welsman@yahoo.co.uk) . With the form given you at Orihuela you attend your local Dr's clinic for the allocation of a Dr
Once the E106 has expired (a little under 2 years from the date of issue) all you need to do is pop along to your local Dr's clinic (Salud) with photocopy of passport, photo page, a recent copy of certificate of padron (obtainable from town hall). At the salud you will need to complete a form and that is it. When you recieve your medical card it is stamped "on demand" which means you qualify for health treatment as if you were a spanish national, or a foreigner with residencia.
To qualify for the "on demand" health care you must not be a pensioner and must not be working. If you fall in either of these catagories then different rules apply.
The "on demand" works perfectly well in Torrevieja, but I have heard it is not accepted in some areas, so best you check this out at some stage before you move over here, or during the free cover provided under the E106 scheme.
On word of warning on the E106. You sould ensure all you family members either have their own E106 or are included on somebody else's.

We have just registered our E106 but at our local health centre at Cabo Roig, we did not have to go to Orihuela !!!

        E106

If you are now able to by pass going to Orihuela by going straight to your local salud that makes things a little simpler, albeit Orihuela is a nice inland town with good few tapa bars. I just wonder however how your deatils are registered in the Valencian health care system if one is able to by pass the offices at Orihuela.

            Hi Brian

Re HEALTHCARE AFTER E106 IN ALICANTE PROVINCE

Your posting on this topic on the Torrievieja forum has been brought to my attention via a new client of mine, I have tried to send you an email unsucessfully, anyway they are re-locating before retirement age so are obviously very interested in finding out the facts, I have emailed Newcastle in the past on several occasions regarding various questions without sucess also but have obtained the relevant paperwork for clients who were either in employment or retired without problems but would be very greatful for the information regarding this situation.

Concerning the topic below which you posted I wonder if you can tell me if you dont, mind where you found out this information, I have heard rumors and as I am sure you are aware of in Spain it depends who you are who you know and where you are, what I mean is there are so many different stories going round and so called facts printed that it is difficult to find out what is the rule and what is hearsay

I try to get my information as accurate as possible so that I can advise others and although we ourselves when we first moved here obtained a temporary health card with out either being in employment or an E106, we had got E111's though, which were used, ( I personally think this was a case of who we know though) anyway since then we have obtained permanent SIP cards because we are now working and in the system. I am just in the process of registering a young family who I have just re-located and who are working but have not yet obtained work contracts, they need to get cover as soon as possible because they have three young children and we have to get medicals done for the school, having said this the children have been accepted into the school and just await these results. The family do have E111's and we have appointments on Tuesday to register but I had not heard of the on demand system being used and would really appreciate where this information came from or is held.

I thank you in anticipation for your help.

            Kind regards
            Sharon

              Health Crae after the E111

When applying for a SIP card in Torrevieja you also need a letter from Newcastle in Spanish stating that you are not entitled to health care in England. Newcastle are aware of this letter and are happy to send it to you in both English and Spanish. The administration office will take a copy of this letter and give you back the original. This letter is in addition to the other documents.
              Hope this helps

              Roy

Have just been notified that there is a new post on this thread where I posted the original question.

With regard to the form E106, where do we would get it from. We obviously have the new Health Cards which replaced the E111, but we will not be retired when we go to Spain so is it the E106 that we would need?
