CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLACE TO GET THE NIE

We will be living about 9kms from Guadarmar so need to find out which office we are supposed to go to to get our NIE numbers.

We would prefer to go to Torrevieja which is the nearest but can you just go to any office? We also thought about going inland to Elche but don't want to go there if they turn us away. I know there is a police station/office at Oriheula costa but that is further away from where we will be going to live than Torrevieja.

WE GOT OURS AT PLAYA FLAMENCA TOWN HALL.A BIT OF A PALAVER AND THE GIRL WHO WORKS THERE IS MISERABLE AS SIN.WE APPLIED THEN HAD TO GO BACK SIX WEEKS LATER,NO REAL PROBLEMS THOUGH OTHER THAN HANGING AROUND,MAKE SURE YOU TAKE EXACTLY WHAT PAPERWORK YOU REQUIRE AS THEY WON'T PHOTOCOPY ANYTHING FOR YOU

What exactly do you need when you apply for your NIE ??

Hi Steve.

You will need the following documentation per person wishing to apply:

Completed application form for NIE
Copy of completed application form
Passport
Copy of details page of passport
2 passport photos

You can complete it online and print off two copies to save having to get a photocopy made. Make sure that when you complete it, the details you put on the form are exactly the same as they appear in your passport (i.e. place of birth etc).

Thanks for that information.
We are out there in September and October and would like to get it sorted out. Where do you recommend doing it, Torrevieja would be ideal, but I have no idea where in Torrevieja the office is, any help would be appreciated.

I may have asked this before but here goes!!!

We are still in the UK but coming over in 8 weeks to see to this. Do we have to get back to Spain again to collect our NIE 's personally or can we arrange for them to be picked up by someone in Spain for us or can we arrange for them to be sent to our solicitor?

Hi Ojay.

you can arrange for them to be collected by someone else - just complete the bottom part of the NIE application form giving the name and address of the person collecting (who can be your solicitor, although I would imagine they would charge for this service). I would think that they would need to take their passport with them to collect on your behalf.

Thanks for your response Chris - I just wanted to know in case we're not in Spain when they become available. and I'll make sure if someone is picking them up that they take their passport with them. Don't want to line the pocket of a lawyer if it isn't necessary.....
