Moving to Spain from US

Seriously considering moving to Spain with in next 2 year, my question is, buying property/house for living all year round anything in particular I should know. I should also mention that my wife is a current residnet of EU country, does this help in any way in regards to purchasing a house or apartment. We will be in the Alicante area late summer to try and see and feel the pulse of the area.
