We purchased a house in April 2007. What is this tax called Suma? When do we pay it? How can we find out about it? We don't get post or have the facility to receive it. We have been told we don't need to pay until the property is 2 years old - is that accurate info.

The tax is called I.B.I (real estate tax) being the office called Suma the tax collector instructed by the Valencian autonomous administration. It is true that it takes approximately 2 years for catastro (the entity that values the price to the effect of payment of taxes) from the registration of the property, to send their first bill for the total of the whole years (from 1st of January to 31st of December) while you have been the owner.
The first invoice will be sent to the Spanish property. If you think that you may have problems to receive the bill, you should go to Suma and ask them to give it to you and you can take the opportunity to set up direct debit to pay the following bills.
