TALK STORIES OF THE RAILWAY TO TORREVIEJA

Talk “Stories of the Railway to Torrevieja”

The Rotary Club of Torrevieja organizes the talk “Stories of the Railway to Torrevieja” which aims to rescue the memory of a key infrastructure in the development and identity of the city.

The conference is scheduled for November 24, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. at the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja.

The conference will be given by José Luis Pérez Maeso, researcher and disseminator from Torrevieja, who will invite the public to take a journey through the history of the train that linked Torrevieja with the rest of the country. Through stories, photographs and historical documents, Pérez Maeso will show how this railway line influenced the economic, social and cultural life of the municipality from its inauguration, at the end of the nineteenth century, until its closure in 1970.

For many years, the railway represented a symbol of modernity and a fundamental route for the transport of salt and other local products, as well as connecting Torrevieja with the interior of Spain. His disappearance profoundly transformed the urban structure and customs of the city, although his legacy is still present in the memory of its inhabitants.

The event seeks to preserve Torrevieja’s historical heritage and awaken interest in the roots of the town. It is also part of the programme of cultural and dissemination activities regularly promoted by both the Rotary Club and the Royal Yacht Club.

Attendance is open to the public until full capacity is reached.
