If you have signed on the Padron in Torrevieja you are entitled to apply for a free bus pass. The problem, however, is getting on the Padron in Torrevieja if you are a holiday home owner. Unlike Orihuela Costa, Torrevieja will only let you sign on the Padron if you are a permanent resident (rightly or wrongly). I'm sure there are people out there who've tried and failed to get on the Padron in Torrevieja who can let you know the whole debacle!

I`ve signed on the padron at Torrevieja twice (different years).
We have not yet stayed long enough to apply for residencia.
I went to the Town Hall (ayuntamiento) soon after they opened in the morning. I then took a ticket from the machine in the foyer.
As people go in to be seen their number is displayed above the door so you can see how many are before you. You might have to wait an hour or so but you do not need to be at the door until your number is displayed - but don`t miss it. I sat opposite in the square reading a paper and going to check the number every few minutes.
You need your passport and proof of ownership or long term rental ie. escritura or utilities bill. When you go in you are quicker than you would be in a Bitish doctors surgery.

I f I only have to wait a couple of hours that will be fine as the usual waiting time in my doctors surgery is usually 4 hours and that's with an appointment

The cost of a bus journey is 90 cents (single) from anywhere along the 332 to Torrevieja. to get a time table go to Tourist Information , 100 yards to the right of the waterfall.I usually get a bus from La Zenia roundabout, and sometimes its early and sometimes 20minutes late.The only excuse i would say in their defense is that the buses travel from Cartagena to Alicante, roughly 100 km.
