.......... and if this doesn't work I will then contact the Spanish and UK Governments, the EU Parliament, the Pope, and even GOD if necessary but I will stop these people enjoying SKY tv channels in Spain if it's the last thing I do !!!!

It has gone from being boring to downright petty now, so I now begin to emphasise with SKYTVINSPAIN. At least there is no hidden agenda here, so let's here it for SKYTVINSPAIN - hip hip ........
patoc, its not to stop people enjoying SKY tv, far from it. Rather than arguing with every member on what is right, wrong, fact or not, lets not assume what a sky installer says is fact. Ive only just joined this forum but am a member of others, this topic is always covered and it is quite apparent now that Spain see's the issue of Sky cards as illegal which is why Nortons was summons to the judicial police and as a result had the choice of carrying on selling them and being closed down with a "visit to Alicante" (not a hotel me thinks) or stop selling them and remain open and a free man !!!!

There's nothing more important in life is there? Why are you siding with SKYTVINSPAIN then if you want to stop sky being shown? Have I missed something?

What TV do you watch then???
Im the first to admit that i watch telmicro, and yes i have known they were re-broadcasting illegally, TV is not overly important to me so I will be happy with any channels and it looks as though when telmicro come back (if they do) they will only deliver legal stuff. I just think it is important that people know what is legal and what is not, the choice is then theirs to make up their mind what they spend their money on. To be told it is legal to sell SKY cards in spain etc it is illegal regardless what anyone says. Im not having a dig at anyone, if its legal its legal, if its not its not but dont say it is legal when it is not. Thats all.

        • The Real Problem

If there where no illegal installers, re-broadcaster and other cowboys, the market for providing LEGAL services to the ex-pat population on the Costa would not have been undermined. I am VERY sure that legal content providers would VERY MUCH like to enter the ex-pat market and that they would be able to negotiate rights for selling legal services. It is simply impossible to compete with people not paying taxes, fees and rights. Sad.

-- Anyway the "VIASAT" directive is completely misused in this debate. It was created so that one company, having bought the broadcasting rights for another country, should be allowed to do so. The example is TV3 (Viasat) who broadcast from London to Scandinavia. They buy the rights to send premiership matches, soaps (like Lost etc) to Scandinavia from the right owner. They are NOT allowed to broadcast this to the British audience unless they buy the right to do so (which SKY does). --

            • Whatever the legal position we do need access to english speaking TV for those among us that cannot master Spanish so whether it is telemocro or some other enterprise, lets hope something is done soon, we all took a chance on rebroadcast tv, now the chickens have come home to roost, lets just wait until the dust settles.

I have heard today about a tv installer who was previously with Telemicro and now with Torresat. This man has been visiting "old" customers telling them telemicro won't be back but they should sign up with Torresat! I really hope that people don't fall for this but hold on for a while to see how things pan out. Over the past 6 years I have had 3 systems all ha ing been installed by fellow countrymen who assured me "it will never go off"!! 1500 euros later and with improved Spanish I will probably stay with Spanish tv rather than. E ripped off again! I've been very nieve in the past but paid the price....you won't catch me again!

                  • Brindleboy - I am sorry to hear about your experiences. I realised a long time back that Telmicro were broadcasting unlawfully and cancelled my contract with them and to make doubly sure, also went to the Bank and cancelled the DD. There are some on this forum who would say 'tough luck' to you (Britbuild etc)and have already done so. I do not. What I think is wrong is that the people you purchased TV services from in good faith, probably advertised in the press, offered you all you wanted when you paid for it, quite substantial sums of money, I expect, then later let you down. I don't know of your age but should you not be retired, can you imagine how this amount of expenditure would have affected someone living here on a Pound Sterling old age state pension made variable by the vagaries of the exchange rate who honestly thought they were doing the right thing ? I have seen this affect decent people terribly, adults and able to make their own decisions, yes, but let down by glossy advertisements and a veneer of respectability and reliability by traders and thier worthless contracts, rotton to the core who are in fact little more than 'con' men. This is where I stand by my little campaign, hopeless as it may be, to starve these rogues and their ilk of publicity in the press despite the nastiness shown by others to this action.

                    • I live north of Santa Pola.
This morning I was talking to an English friend who runs a local bar . He told me that the Guardia Civil are visiting the bars advertising Sky sport football matches.
They are being told that if they advertise Sky sports football or show the matches they will be shut down . Not fined or warned again . SHUT DOWN !
This seems to be all about SKY/CANAL+ clearing the field !

                      • Good - let us unite and join the authorities in this country to expel unlawful practices everywhere and of whatever nature. Spanish bars shows football quite lawfully, why should 'English' bars not do the same. (Why is it that anyone doing anything of a slightly shady nature is 'English' - are they the worst lawbreakers around?)

I agree with your comments. As it happens we did retire here early (in our 40's). We did work initially firstly for estate agents that promised the world and who we eventually had to threaten with a denuncia before we received any money (English company), secondly for a builder (from London) worked for a month and when turned up at his flat for money he had gone back to the Uk with my money, tools and radio (god bless you Paul Wilkes). We then worked in a bar (I have started another thread on this!). The upshot is that we have been conned (as far as we know) 5 times by fellow countrymen. We now live on a small pension but avoid English tradesmen unless recommended by a friend. We pay our way and expect nothing for nothing paying for private healthcare as our first prioity.

We were also conned out of some money back in mid to late 2004 by a builder/carpenter from London named Paul. Stated his dad had died and would finish the work when he came back. Just wondered if it was the same Paul?

                              • Just to let you all know that I received this yesterday from Telmicro after I enquired about the La Zenia xmitter -

                                Dear Customer,

Our technical staff are working to get the signal back to the different areas as quickly as possible. So far Montesinos, La Mata and Crevillente transmitters are back on, but unfortunately we do not have a schedule for the other areas just yet. Our initial estimation is to have most areas sorted by the end of next week, unless there is some unexpected damaged or missing equipment.

                                Kind regards
                                Telmicro TV Service
