I intend to take a Humax Freesat box to Playa Flamenca to connect to a 1.9mt dish

What postcode should I enter when setting the box up

Will I be able to get the full set of freeasat channels

What's happened to it in the last 2 weeks then ? - I'm hearing it's closed down....when I posted an info thread here asking about it - the thread was quickly suppressed - why ?

you need a post code on freeshat boxes to determine what are your default 101 and 103 regions are for bbc and itv.

in many areas the best / strongest frequencies for bbc and itv are those of bbc1 Channels Islands and ITV1 Channels Islands.

So i would suggest you ibnput a JErsey postcode...google the Jersey Post Office and use theirs!!!

Some of us "good sat. techies" are on both boards!

remember that with a basic freesat box you will gain no more channels if you own a sky receiver...

a freesat HD receiver you will only gain BBCHD and ITV HD (what a joke - lucky if you get more than 1 HD programme a week!) if you own a sky receiver...

if you get a freesat HD box you can get bbc hd and itv hd
if you get a sky HD box and a sky card you can get bbc hd c4hd and itv hd (with the new EPG). you do not have to pay anything xtra for these hd channels, thet are free - you only have to pay an extra £10 per month if you want the Sky Subscription HD channels.

personally if you already own a sky receiver then there is no real point in going for a freesat receiver...unless it is for a second location.

If you have weak C4 or C5 put these in your menu, These first two are options for Channel 4 12480V 27500 2/3 and 10704H 22000 5/6 . For Channel 5 10773 H 22000 5/6
To put these numbers in a skybox - press - services - 4 - 0 1 - select and you will now be in the installers menu which is a doddle to use. To view them go into other channels and select.
Anyone with a freesat box - go into menu and set up - add channels - then go to non freesat menu - search - you will get around 300 more channels.

a london postcode will make your bbc1 region london - which has the same reception times as bbc2, ie can be limited during the day. its ok for itv1 tho.
but a channels islands postcode uses a strong bbc1 and strong itv1 region that should be there 24/7

the channels 5 frequency you mention is the freesat five frequency - and a freesat box wil already be using this as their channel 5 (105) - and again it is on the same frequency as bbc2 so reception will be as per bbc2.

yes at the moment on the frequency 12480 there is a much stronger channel 4 (tagged as tton4). the one you mention on 10704 is the one that again is weak and has the same reception times similar to bbc2 - and is already on freesat and sky boxes as channel 104!

and rememeber that you do not need a sky card to view the free tv channels like bbc or c4...they are free...even on a sky box and a freesat box doesnt have the ability to use a sky card anyway!
you have not needed to use a sky card for bbc channels for about 6 years, for many itv channels for 3 years, for c4 channels for a year. the only thing a sky card is required for bbc channels is to set you default bbc1 (andbbc2) regions!
and all the information on the last link is available for free on the internet anyway, even on my site!

Thanks for all the replies

On arriving played arround with various postcodes and settled for a Jersey postcode

It seems an excellant alternative to taking your Sky box over and a lot more user friendlly than the generic boxes that some local suppliers sell

I can receive most of the Freesat channels the main problom being that BBC2 Channel 5 and Radio 5 are only available in the evenings
