72nd International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja 2026

From July 19 to 25, 2026, the 72nd International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja will be held, one of the most emblematic cultural events on the international choral scene.

The Municipal Theatre of Torrevieja hosts the most important cultural event in the city, in which choirs from Europe, America and Asia will participate, competing and performing both habaneras – a genre of Cuban roots deeply rooted in the city – and polyphonic works of great vocal richness.

FIRST EVENING (SUNDAY, JULY 19)

OPENING GALA

Opening ceremony of the event with the participation of:

• Torrevieja Musical Union
• Symphony Choir of the Municipal Choral School of Torrevieja
• With the special performance of the soprano Ainhoa Arteta, officially starting the week of the contest.

SECOND EVENING (MONDAY, JULY 20)

CHORAL GALA – PERFORMANCE BY LOCAL CHOIRS

COMPETITION PHASE

First day of the competition with the participation of international guest choirs, performing habanera obligada, habaneras libres and polyphonic works:

• Anchorus Polyphonic Choir (Turkey)
• Vocal Ensemble Sorcery (Chile)
• Beijing Wuzi Riparian Choir (China)

FOURTH EVENING (WEDNESDAY, JULY 22)

COMPETITION PHASE

• Portland Phoenix Chamber Choir (United States)
• UDLAP Chamber Choir (Mexico)
• Mixed Choir “Viva” (Slovenia)
• Administratio Choir (Indonesia)

FIFTH EVENING (THURSDAY, JULY 23)

COMPETITION PHASE

Third day of the contest with the participation of the rest of the selected international choirs to complete the 15 official groups of the contest.

SIXTH EVENING (FRIDAY, JULY 24)

COMPETITION PHASE

Last day of competition with the remaining choirs and closing of the performances of the contest.

SEVENTH EVENING (SATURDAY, JULY 25)

GRAND CHORAL GALA AND AWARDS CEREMONY

The closing gala will offer a selection of performances by the choirs highlighted by the jury. Subsequently, the decision of the contest will be made public and the awards ceremony will take place, ending with the traditional common singing of the obligatory work.
