The recent rains have made the collapse of part of the Cabo Roig promenade in Orihuela Costa worse.
In September 2019, a landslide occurred in the lower part of the promenade that borders the beach of La Caleta, in Cabo Roig.
Since then, the 2019 rains (DANA) and the more recent rains of last week, have caused the damage to become much larger, with the danger of part of the promenade collapsing.
The action of the Orihuela city council was to place fences to prevent access to that area of the walk and later, they proceeded to mount some struts under the concrete structure of the walk, but these struts have given way with the landslides caused by the rain.
The repair of this infrastructure is a dispute between Orihuela City Council and the company that has been awarded the contract for the maintenance of public spaces.
The reality is that, meanwhile we are faced with a public infrastructure that cannot be used by pedestrians who used to use it daily.
The Orihuela Costa Neighbors Association (AVOCA) have submitted a document to the City Council requesting the repair of the La Caleta beach promenade as soon as possible, to avoid an accident from happening and to allow us to be able to enjoy such a beautiful environment again along our coast.
