Just a thought. What about going to the Guardia Civil bararcks and making a denunica against not only Telemicro but the installer who must share some of the blame for this ?

Obviously, you would need command of the Spanish language or an interpreter to do this.

Essentially, and according to the RTN today (1508200 Telemicro have been closed down not for taxation matters but for copyright issues. ie. unlawful re transmission as I reported in the first instance. Therefore any monies accepted by them or on their behalf would appear to be a criminal offence.
The law in the UK would call this 'criminal deception' or accepting money for a pecuniary advantage.

As I have pointed out though, I saw this coming two months ago and cancelled my DD with Telemicro. I now have no TV which may be a shock at first but eventually one grows used to it.

Anyone having watched through the information channel must have noted that something was wrong when they clearly stated that you should always get a recipe from the installer stating their name etc. I am not sure you can blame installers if they have collected the money on behalf of Telemicro, I am quite clear that you can if they knew or should have known that the service was pirated. The next question ofcourse: What if you quite clearly knew or should have known that it was piracy?

Remember that installers having in good faith put up antennas and configured boxes etc are perhaps the biggest losers here They might have lost their outstandings towards telmicro, their job and reputation among friends.

Who knows what some people might be willing to do to retrieve their lost 700 euros.

Hi, according to rumours and an apparently reliable source TelMicro have had all of their equipment returned and will be rebroadcasting in the very near future. (Someone has mentioned Tuesday 19th!?)
Anyway it remains to be seen if the Sport Channels will be broadcast, I have been told that all of the English TV systems over here have been advised to stop broadcasting Sky Sports etc as they have no rights to be making money from these channels. Again I don't know how true this is, but back in May when we first had problems with TelMicro they told me that they would add Sky Sports, Movies etc to the channel list but these would not be included in the package price so basically they would be a free gift!?
Well I am hoping that something gets sorted very soon.

Just remember that the people having provided the work are not necessarily the ones to blame. The may have acted in good faith.

It is actually a very good point. In another thread people where discussing "good agencies for long term letting". When will there be a crack down on illegal rentals, and what kind of reduction in price would be justifiable for discovering that the TV included in your rent is gone, and was always illegal?

The threads moved onto illegal renting now, we could also put some blame on the expat newspaper like, roundtown, costa blanc news and the coastrider for printing the adverts for these ilegal pirate broadcasting companies, which i must admit are very well highlighted in most of these papers, but they will probably have some liability clause within there pages

I don't think we can expect a paper to take a legal opinion weather a TV-installation is legitimate or not as we can not expect them to have a legal opinion with regards to the quality of the work provided by advertising builders or plumbers. They do however have a responsibility to safeguard that the advertisements for known illegal services are stopped (i.e. illegal pirate taxis etc).

However people running companies must ensure that they are 100% in compliance with Spanish laws. Trust me, most people who are not, know what they are doing. There is serious jail time involved, and anyone who are not familiar with Spanish laws should have professional assistance (i.e. a solicitor or qualified accountant) aiding them.

There is a big difference between a private individual helping his neighbour collect rent, or perhaps downloading a football match from the Internet for private use, to someone making this into a business.

The crackdown is coming. Mark my words. Now is the time to reorganize and make sure everything you do is legitimate, alternatively leave before they catch up with you. The Wild West of the Costa Blanca is coming to an end.

I totally agree with you John, but the Papers as well as us know these companies are offering illegal sky packages, yet they still print them and take the money. As for Builders, Plumbers and Property Rental Companies etc, why not open a Thread on this forum Naming and Shaming bad workmanship and dodgy rentals.

To be honest, most of the papers down here seem to be run by professional people who know what they are doing. Now and then I find nice small new ones, that are slightly amateurish (Quesada 4 Quesada etc), but even they seem to be run quite professionally. They have probably taken the necessary legal advices, and only if they continue to run advertisements for illegal installations etc AFTER having run stories about it, would it be possible to "prove" that they knew it was a scam.

Basically it is the Police and not the Newspapers that should catch criminals.

I've watched this thread with interest. Yep like everybody else we've lost out. However I'm more concerned that my 84 year old Father is without his entertainment. Not so much a problem in the summer, but potentially a big problem in the winter, when he spends a lot of time indoors.
My question is can we get satellite installed (with no monthly subs) or is that likely to go also.
Any thoughts appreciated

I don't think they will use resources on shutting down receivers in private homes. The Freesat system would probably work fine, and be legal for private usage.

On another forum discussing the same issue a Norwegian user writes that he needs a 3 meter dish in order to receive Scandinavian signals because of actions taken by the Scandinavian broadcasters to screen their signals. He fears that the local Scandinavian rebroadcasters are next on the prosecution list.

The best solution could be to go for one of the freeview packages aimed at the Spanish audience, especially if they have the option of English language on channels like Fox and Calle13. Some have even mentioned that it should be possible to watch Football with English commendatory on Canal+ if the sound setup is done correctly (I don't know, but I guess you could always call them to ask).

Personally I think I'll just go for one of the packages from Telefonica. Perhaps this is the best opportunity in a long time to learn Spanish fluently!

satellite is just a satellite thats no rebroadcasting so yeahh he can ofcourse get sky.. the free channels i think you need 1.8 or 2.0m dish for that also you can get the free channels of nilesat, astra, hotbird and many more i bought a dish and a receiver for 390€
