The “Peña del cochino” of Torrelamata will distribute more than 500 kg of pork, 150 kilos of bread, celery, and 150 litres of wine on International Pork Day.
On the feast of San Antón, the slaughter of the pig is traditionally celebrated throughout the Vega Baja region.
Next Sunday, the “International Pig Day” is celebrated, where hundreds of people gather in the Plaza de La Mata to eat barbecued pork.

This festival, also called “International Festival of the Iberian Product of Torrelamata”, brings together people from numerous towns in the Vega Baja as well as German, English and Scandinavian tourists.
Each group of people who want to attend this gastronomic event can come with their tables, chairs, barbecue, food and drink.
More than 1,000 people have participated in this “pig” festival in previous years, with no need for prior registration. It is enough to show up at the Plaza de Encarnación Pujol de La Mata around 12 noon to pick up the pork.
