Exhibition: Among the Tattooed Waves

Coinciding with the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest of Torrevieja, we invite you to visit the exhibition “Among the tattooed waves”

The objective of this exhibition is to rescue and disseminate the cultural richness of the habanera to bring it closer to younger people, because in Torrevieja, this musical genre has become a symbol of cultural identity that must remain over time.

At the opening of the exhibition you can enjoy a concert of classic habaneras, as well as a special tribute to maestro Ricardo Lafuente Aguado, performed by Nuria Maddaloni, soprano; Concepción Pérez Boj, soprano; Coral Sánchez Boj, mezzo-soprano; Francisco Moreno, tenor and Jorge Carrasco Juárez, piano.

The title of this exhibition “among the tattooed waves” corresponds to a paragraph from the lyrics of the Habanera Torrevieja by Ricardo Lafuente.

The exhibition shows the history of the contest, the habanera as a musical genre, the importance of choirs in artistic evolution, the posters announcing the Habaneras Contest as well as the premiere of two contemporary habaneras, composed for this occasion.

This project has been directed by the researcher Jesús Segarra-Saavedra
and has had the musical direction of Jorge Carrasco Juárez, professor of piano
of the Victoria Eugenia Royal Conservatory of Music of Granada.

The exhibition will remain open from June 28 to July 28, in the Vista Alegre Exhibition Hall from Monday to Friday, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
