Virgen del Carmen Procession in Torrevieja 2024

PROGRAMME OF FESTIVITIES IN HONOUR OF THE VIRGEN DEL CARMEN

On Tuesday, July 16, there will be a boat ride (maritime procession) of the image of the Virgen del Carmen.

the Virgen del Carmen, is the patron saint of sailors and fishermen.

The Fishermen’s Association of Torrevieja and the Department of Festivals of the City of Torrevieja have prepared a programme of activities for the celebration of this festivity.

PROGRAMME

The Floral Offering is usually made on the Saturday before July 16 at the end of the solemn mass in the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (8 pm).

Usually, the band of the Torrevieja Musical Union accompanies the offering to the Monument to the “Man of the Sea“, where symbolically, a wreath of flowers is thrown into the sea in memory of all the men and women who have dedicated their lives to the sea.

At the end of the offering, the “José Hódar” Choral Mass usually sings the Salve Marinera.

On Tuesday, July 16, is the feast of the Virgen del Carmen and the following events will usually be celebrated:

8:00 a.m. Musical Diana through the streets of the city. Then, in the port of Torrevieja the CUCAÑA MARÍTIMA will be celebrated, which consists of walking barefoot on a thick wooden post smeared with grease to reach the little flag at the end of the post.

8:00 p.m. Solemn Mass in the Church of the Immaculate Conception and usually sung by the “José Hódar” Choral Mass, conducted by Miguel Guerrero. At the end of the mass, the procession of the Virgen del Carmen will begin until it reaches the Fishing Port, where the image of the Virgin will be embarked to begin the maritime procession.

At the end of the boat ride, the Salve Marinera will be performed and a fireworks display will be set off and then the procession will return to the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
