In the province of Alicante, there are more than 230 castles, refuge towers and defence batteries.
The travelling exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Alicante MARQ ‘Guardianes de Piedra, is at the Mercado de Abastos in Rojales until January 2023.
The exhibition, made up of displays and models, is dedicated to the castles and fortifications that used to defend the province of Alicante in the past and are now treated as buildings of great historical and cultural value.
The exhibition is divided into five routes that coincide with the boundaries of the 5 major regions of the province of Alicante:
- The Vega Baja
- The Vinalopo Valley
- L’Alacantí
- L’Alcoià-El Comtat
- The Marinas of Alicante
Some of the castles and fortifications that we can see in this exhibition are the Castle of Tudemir, the fortifications of Orihuela, Callosa del Segura and Cox and coastal defence towers such as those of Cabo Roig, Torre del Moro, Cabo Cervera and La Mata.
