The “S-61 Delfin” Submarine is an icon for culture and the union between peoples, an expression of the depth of our seafaring roots.

The Delfin is a Daphne-class submarine loaned by the Spanish Navy to the Torrevieja City Council, thus becoming the “first floating museum” of these characteristics in our country.

Our seafaring tradition and our relationship with the Spanish Navy led Torrevieja to hand over the combat flag to the submarine S-61 Delfin on December 1, 1974.

When the time came for its decommissioning, the Ministry of Defence was kind enough to deliver the last flag of the S-61 to the city of Torrevieja in an endearing ceremony at the Arsenal of Cartagena. Subsequently, the definitive transfer of the submarine took place, which can be visited in the port of Torrevieja.

With the help of the Museum of the Sea and Salt, since May 8, 2004, the Delfin Submarine becomes the first ship of the Spanish Navy to become a floating museum, offering those who visit it the possibility of knowing the interior of a submarine and imagining what the living conditions of its crew members were like.

The Delfin submarine has arrived at its last port and is already part of the image of Torrevieja, having received more than 1,300,000 visits since it became a floating museum.
