Following this decision of the Board of Directors, the choirs that were going to participate this year will be asked to do so in July 2021, in accordance with the rules that govern the 66th edition of the International Competition of Habaneras and Polyphony.
After this decision the choirs will participate in July 2021 in accordance with the rules governing the 66th edition of the International Competition of Habaneras and Polyphony, keeping their deposit. The proposed obligatory work will be maintained, as well as the selected repertoire, whilst opening a new extraordinary registration period in order to have the possibility of selecting more choirs in the event that one of the existing choirs does not confirm their participation.

Likewise, in view of the impossibility of the movement of international choral groups, whenever the health situation and restrictions so permit, exhibition evenings will be held with the city choirs, as well as the invitation of national choirs and shows so choral music can contribute to the non-competitive celebration of the 66th edition.
Finally, the Board of Directors of the Municipal Board of Habaneras has approved for the start of the next academic period the celebration of the 26th Habaneras International Youth Contest which was to be held this coming weekend with a possible provisional date of 26th September 2020, provided that the health situation has improved, as well as the elimination of existing restrictions.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, deeply regrets that these postponement measures have to be taken in the face of the current health crisis, especially as it is the most important musical and cultural event in our city, with declared International Tourist Interest, which since its inception in the summer of 1955 had never, until now, been suspended or deferred.
