Earthquake in the Torrevieja area

An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale has been felt in Torrevieja and in various nearby towns at 5:48 pm this afternoon.

This earthquake has been felt in the towns of Torrevieja, Guardamar del Segura, Los Montesinos and San Miguel de Salinas, as well as other nearby towns, according to the National Geographic Institute.

The tremor, whose epicenter has been located in the sea, northwest of Torrevieja, at a latitude of 38.0028 degrees North and a longitude of -0.6025 degrees West, 7 meters deep, has not caused any incidents or cause for concern, except for the fright to many neighbours from Torrevieja who noticed, they say, a strong tremor.

On March 21, 1829, an earthquake of 6.6 degrees on the Ritcher scale, devastated Torrevieja and several locations in the Vega Baja. This earthquake caused 389 deaths, 32 of which were in Torrevieja.
