The Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen in Torrevieja are an annual celebration that honors the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors and fishermen. They take place on July 16 and feature a program of events that includes a maritime procession of the image of the Virgin, a lateen sailing competition, a maritime cucaña, a Eucharist and a fireworks display. The boat procession is the highlight, followed by the performance of the Salve Marinera by a local choir.
During the months of July and August – Brilla Torrevieja – Cycle of annual concerts that takes place every summer in Torrevieja, attracting a large number of young people and music lovers. The event features renowned national and international artists offering live performances. Some of the artists who have participated in this cycle include names such as Abraham Mateo, Black Eyed Peas, India Martínez, Kidd Keo, Melendi, Loquillo, Quevedo, Lola Índigo, Luis Fonsi and Sebastián Yatra.
Last week of July – Habaneras
ContestThe Torrevieja International Habaneras and Polyphony Contest is a prestigious event that is held every year during the last week of July. Organized by the Patronato Municipal de Habaneras de Torrevieja, it is the oldest contest in its musical genre “La Habanera” and attracts choirs from all over the world. The choral competition takes place in the Eras de la Sal and focuses on the habanera genre and choral polyphony. This event is an outstanding international reference for choral music and offers an opportunity to enjoy the rich musical tradition of Torrevieja and promote cultural exchange through music.
August
Thursday 15 – Assumption of the Virgin (national holiday)
Between the 3rd and 7th – Festivities of San Emigdio.
The Fiestas de San Emigdio in Torrevieja are held at the beginning of August in honour of San Emigdio, co-patron saint of the city and protector against earthquakes. The events take place in the Parque de las Naciones and include a “Barraca Popular”, raffles for gifts, musical performances and children’s entertainment. The highlight is a procession with the image of the saint, accompanied by a music band, which runs through the streets of the city. The festivities conclude with a fireworks display.
Between the 15th and 21st The “Bonfire Molinos del Calvario” organizes a Great Summer Festival.
This party includes various activities for all ages, such as an 80s Remember Party, a Foam Party for outdoor fun, the preparation of a giant paella to share, and musical performances. It is an opportunity to enjoy entertainment, music and food in a festive atmosphere during the summer in Torrevieja.
Between the 15th and 16th – Great Summer Parade.
The Summer Parade in Torrevieja is a festivity that takes place in the middle of August. In this parade, several local carnival troupes parade through the streets wearing elaborate and colorful costumes. In addition, the participation of representatives of the Moors and Christians of Crevillente stands out, who add a cultural touch to the event with their costumes and traditional music. The parade is organized in tribute to the Queen and Ladies of Salt of Torrevieja.
Between the 15th and 16th – Festivities of the Barrio de San Roque.
The Fiestas del Barrio de San Roque in Torrevieja are held approximately between the 10th and 15th of August. These neighbourhood festivals include a varied programme that ranges from children’s entertainment and live music to popular paella, foam parties, costume parades, fireworks displays, contests and raffles.
Weekends in August – Summer Festivities in La Mata.
The Summer Festivities in the hamlet of Torrevieja “La Mata” are an annual celebration that takes place every weekend in August. They stand out for offering free concerts that include renowned tributes to the best bands and singers of Spanish pop. These festivities provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to enjoy live music and entertainment throughout the month of August.
September
Between the 8th and 10th – Fiesta de LA SANTINA – The Fiesta de La Santina in Torrevieja is an annual celebration that pays homage to the Virgin of Covadonga, also known as “La Santina”. The festivity includes a series of events that highlight Asturian culture, such as processions with the image of the Virgin, bagpipe and drum music, a mass in her honor and a folk festival. In addition, there are activities such as a proclamation, comic theatre and the participation of local and Asturian authorities. It is an important occasion for the Asturian community in Torrevieja and an opportunity to get to know the Asturian culture.
Between the 6th and 10th – Rock against Cancer – Rock Against Cancer is an annual musical event dedicated to raising funds for the fight against cancer in Torrevieja.
This Rock festival was founded in 2009, with a first concert organized by the brothers Neil and Nigel Wyatt (owners of the most legendary bar in Torrevieja:
Monroe’s Rock Cafe Pub
) and has become one of the biggest musical events in Torrevieja.
Between days 1 and 4 – TORREVIEJA AUDIOVISUAL
The TORREVIEJA AUDIOVISUAL film festival seeks to value Spanish short films. A cinematographic genre that has demonstrated worldwide the great talent that our filmmakers have.
