The Fiestas de la Virgen del Carmen in Torrevieja are an annual celebration that honours the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of sailors and fishermen. They take place on July 16 and feature a program of events that includes a maritime procession of the image of the Virgin, a lateen sailing competition, a maritime cucaña, a Eucharist and a fireworks display. The boat procession is the highlight, followed by the performance of the Salve Marinera by a local choir.
